Award for Winwood Heights Project

A residential development featuring an external wall insulation system manufactured and supplied by PermaRock has won the latest in a long string of industry awards.

Managed by Nottingham City Homes, Winwood Heights comprises two 15-storey tower blocks with a new, 44-apartment development built between them. Altogether, they provide well over 200 assisted living units.

The project was completed in 2019 but, since then, the scheme was won several prestigious awards. The latest was announced on 4th November at the 2021 Inside Housing Development Awards, held at the InterContinental London. It took the title of ‘Best Older People’s Housing Development’ in the rural and suburban category.

The award was accepted by project architect, the Halsall Lloyd Partnership.

The scheme’s other accolades have included:

  • fbe East Midlands Chairman’s Annual Dinner: Chairman’s Award for Project of the Year
  • Building Communities Awards 2020: Project of the Year (over £3m category)
  • RICS Social Impact Award 2020 East Midlands (residential category)

For the project, the PermaRock Mineral Fibre External Wall Insulation System as specified and installed, and incorporates non-combustible mineral fibre (stonewool) insulation (Euroclass A1 – BS EN 13501-1:2007 + A1:2009). The system achieves an ‘A’ fire classification rating (A2-s1,d0 classification in accordance with BS EN 13501- 1:2007 +A1:2009) and is tested and accredited for use on high rise buildings, including those with floor levels above 18 metres above ground level.

The system was finished with Silicone Ultra K 1.5mm through-coloured render. The self-cleaning material was manufactured in a number of complimentary shades, in accordance with the architect’s design, which called for a series of sharply defined coloured panels.

Installed by SWIGA-approved contractor Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd, the system was backed by a 25-year SWIGA guarantee.
