Roofline Closure Systems
In August 2024, the UK Government allowed Roofline Closure Systems to be used on PAS-compliant retrofit projects, ending a four-year ban. The ban, based on PAS 2035:2019 and PAS 2030:2023, prohibited metal or plastic cappings at eaves and verges after industry failures with traditional verge trims. This left roofline extensions as the only option for protecting external wall insulation where roof overhangs were insufficient—an expensive, complex solution, often impractical for mid-terrace homes. As a result, many properties were excluded from retrofit programmes, denying households insulation benefits.
In response, the NIA, SWIGA, and INCA formed a working group with Government, BSI, the Retrofit Standards Task Group, and Trustmark. They developed new Design Principles and a Weathering Guide (August 2024), setting out how Roofline Closure Systems can be safely reintroduced into retrofit designs while remaining compliant with PAS 2030/2035.
