Dry dashing is a traditional decorative rendering technique, applied to exterior wall surfaces. It produces a finish that is tough, durable, long-lasting, cost-effective and virtually maintenance-free.

Dry dashing can be achieved using Permarock Dry Dash, which comprises a mineral-cement Dashing Mortar and a choice of blended Dashing Aggregates.

Dashing Mortar

Permarock’s specially formulated Dashing Mortar is self-coloured and polymer enriched. Hardwearing and flexible, it offers superior performance to traditional sand-and-cement renders. It is supplied as a pre-batched, pre-coloured dry-powder premix that requires only mixing with clean water on site.

It is available in Grey, White, Yellow, Cream, and Red, but other shades can be made to special order, subject to minimum order quantities.

Dashing Aggregates

Permarock Dashing Aggregates are supplied pre-washed and screened, and then blended to incorporate different types and colours of stones.

Fire Safety

The Permarock Dry Dash system is assessed to EN 13501-1 and may be used as the decorative finish of a Permarock Mineral Fibre External Wall Insulation system. In such cases, the system achieves an A2-s1,d0 classification and is suitable for use on buildings of any height, including those with a storey height above 11 metres.

Any of the comprehensive range of graded dashing stones can be used with any shade of Permarock Dashing Mortar to achieve an attractive ‘pebble dash’ finish.

Dashing Mortar

6-8 kg/m² (3 to 8 mm) Dashing Stone

Method of Application

Supplied pre-blended to the specified colour, Permarock Dashing Mortar requires only mixing with water on site. The mixed and hydrated material is applied onto the prepared substrate (reinforced base coat) by stainless steel trowel at a rate of approx. 6 – 8 kg per square metre. The Dry Dashing aggregate is applied by casting the stones into the Dashing Mortar whilst it is still wet and in a plastic state so that a uniform appearance is achieved.

Application / Drying Conditions

The temperature of the material, substrate, and air should not fall below +5 °C during application and drying. The material cures and dries by hydration and evaporation and is usually sufficiently cured after 24 hours at 65%RH.

Lower temperatures prolong the drying time, whilst higher temperatures accelerate drying. High temperatures may lead to too-rapid drying / evaporation and should be avoided. Dashing in cold or wet conditions or using wet aggregates / dashing stones may encourage the formation of lime bloom which is more noticeable on coloured dashing mortars.

Packaging

Permarock Dashing Mortar is supplied in 25 kg sacks as a dry powder pre-mix requiring only mixing with clean water on site.
