Dr Rodger Canning

It is with very heavy hearts we regret to announce the sad news that the founder and former Chief Executive (Retired) of PermaRock Products Ltd, Dr Rodger Canning, passed away last week after a short battle with illness.

Rodger was instrumental in introducing external wall insulation into the UK, starting with early development work when at Permoglaze in the late 1970s/early ‘80s, and then establishing PermaRock products Ltd in 1986 . Rodger was instrumental in setting up the first industry association for insulated render, the External Wall Insulation Association which later became the Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA), and was also a pioneer by working with the BBA to develop BBA certification for EWI systems in the UK, leading to PermaRock obtaining the first BBA Certificate for an EWI system.

At a time when expanded polystyrene was the principal insulant type being used for EWI, Rodger saw the non-combustibility benefits of stone wool and was a driving force behind developing the first stonewool (Rockwool) insulated render system, being the first to expand into other third party certification bodies for insulated render with WIMLAS and later the BRE, as well as participating in European technical committees overseeing ETICs Standards.

Rodger’s underlying philosophy was always one of high quality standards and technical excellence, a philosophy that still underpins PermaRock and its employees to this day, and his influence was, and continues to be felt far beyond his contribution to PermaRock where he was a Director, mentor and friend.

Rodger will be sadly missed and we are sure that you will join us in expressing our sincere condolences to Rodger’s family and friends at this time.
