New Buildings
Architects and specifiers are always looking for effective ways of improving thermal performance in new buildings, whilst also being able to create colourful, vibrant and unique façades. Permarock external wall insulation & render systems provide the ideal solution.
Our portfolio of external wall insulation systems and render systems meets all of the requirements for modern, render-related cladding products. They enable building designers to address vital issues, such as fire performance, thermal performance, environmental impact, air-tightness, impact resistance and aesthetic appeal. There are Permarock systems to meet even the most demanding project requirements.
Our systems have been developed, tested and accredited for use on conventional and modern new-build projects and they are suitable for all types of developments: low-rise and high-rise, in urban or rural locations, in sheltered or exposed situations. In all such cases, they can help to make low and zero-carbon projects a reality.
Why Specify an External Wall Insulation System?
Permarock external wall insulation systems offer architects and specifiers a range of benefits:
- Future Proofing: An external wall insulation system (also known as insulated render) allows the designer to not to just meet, but exceed Building Regulation requirements for new buildings.
- High Performance Insulation: help to maximise thermal performance – very low U-values are possible.
- Continuous Thermal Envelope: incorporating an external wall insulation system as part of the building design allows the specifier in-built flexibility to eliminate thermal bridging.
- Excellent Levels of Airtightness: the use of external wall insulation in new-build designs can significantly contribute to achieving very low air permeability for the building envelope.
- Comfort and Low Carbon by Design: external insulation can be designed to work with a building’s heating and cooling management systems to keep rooms comfortable while using minimal energy.
- Acoustic Benefits: external wall insulation systems, particularly those featuring mineral wool, may provide valuable acoustic benefits. They can help to prevent or reduce noise either entering or emanating from an occupied space.
- Speed of Construction: the installation of the external wall insulation system can be managed off the critical path and therefore other works can be ongoing (e.g. internal fit-out) before or during the installation of the external façade, providing adequate weather tightness is achieved.
- Freedom in Aesthetic Choice: designers have an extensive choice of through-coloured renders and brickwork effects that can be used in isolation or combined. This yields an almost limitless palette of decorative effects to meet even the most demanding of briefs.
Building Regulations
With over 40 years’ experience of supplying into the UK’s construction sector, Permarock has long been at the forefront of external wall insulation (EWI) development, demonstrating full compliance with the Building Regulations. Permarock’s current range of systems includes third party certification with KIWA BDA Agrément certificates, which continue to demonstrate our full compliance with Building Regulations for England and Wales, Scottish Building Standards and other European Standards organisations.
Construction Types
Permarock systems carry independent accreditation that confirms their suitability for application onto timber and steel frame buildings, and to concrete and masonry construction. Where drained cavity systems are required to meet the requirements of NHBC, Trada, Zurich and other building insurers that prescribe the inclusion of a drained cavity into the system on frame constructions, suitably robust cavities can be created as part of the structural design. Typically, they will incorporate two layers of external sheathing to the framed construction. This will form a cavity that complies with the building insurer’s requirements, and will incorporate all the requisite drainage channels and fire stopping.
Fire-Safe Solutions
One of the most important considerations for specifiers, when choosing materials for building façades, is the fire performance of the building envelope components. Particularly important is the performance on high-rise, multi-storey buildings. Permarock Mineral Fibre external wall insulation (EWI) systems are ideally suited for use on high-rise projects. Permarock mineral fibre systems incorporate mineral/stonewool insulation (Euroclass A1), and achieve an A2,s1-d0 fire classification to EN13501-1
Aesthetic Inspiration
Available with an extensive range of decorative renders and finishes, Permarock systems provide almost unlimited scope to create exciting and inspiring buildings. They allow countless combinations of colours, textures and surface effects that can complement and contrast with other cladding materials such as timber, stone, glass and metal.
Whether you choose from our palette of 1250+ colour shades (available with our textured through-coloured renders) or our synthetic brick slips, we provide unprecedented freedom to create uniquely expressive façades. Further dramatic shape and form can be created through simulated blockwork, shadow-lines, ashlar effects and architectural profiles.
Thermal Performance
External wall insulation systems can easily be designed to help meet, or exceed, current limiting fabric parameters (U-value and air permeability), outlined in the existing Part L Building Regulations.
Fabric U-values, quoted for new buildings in dwellings and non-dwellings, show that a fabric-first approach remains critical. Permarock external wall insulation can be integrated into the design of a building to make a meaningful contribution to achieving a high SAP rating.
Low / Zero Carbon Buildings
Incorporating Permarock external wall insulation into a building envelope design can be a significant aid in achieving the improved energy standards of the Passivhaus, BREEAM and other standards, where sustainable and low-carbon design standards are described.
