EXTERNAL RENDER SYSTEMS / THERMAREND /

APPLICATION & COMPOSITION

ThermaRend is a special blend of cements and additives with expanded polystyrene beads that is supplied to site as a dry powder premix, requiring only the addition of water to produce a low density, high adhesive strength insulating render that fulfils several roles.

As a low density, high-build surfacer for large area coverage of brickwork, block, stone masonry or concrete, ThermaRend offers a particularly significant advantage over traditional sand cement renders and polymer-modified mineralic renders: The low thermal conductivity (0.087 W/mK) of ThermaRend enables its use as an external wall insulating render where it will provide thermal resistance towards achieving a target U-value.

The low density and high build capability of ThermaRend also makes the material particularly useful as a void filler, dubbing out mortar and leveller, prior to the application of mechanically fixed or adhesively and mechanically fixed PermaRock External Wall Insulation Systems or PermaRend Exterior Render Systems.

ThermaRend can be applied to prepared, sound substrates either manually or by machine, and a higher adhesion strength formulation, ThermaRend Precoat, is also available for critical situations where a higher level of adhesive bond is required.

ThermaRend can be applied in multiple layers, up to 40 mm per layer, depending on specification and site conditions.

As a render or insulating render system, ThermaRend should be finished with a thin coat of PermaRend, incorporating reinforcing mesh and mechanical (dowel) fixings if required. The system can then accept any of the decorative finishes and effects available from the PermaRock range.
