Is my home suitable?
PermaRock external wall insulation has been developed to improve the energy efficiency of any existing building, particularly solid wall or “Hard To Treat” homes that are not able to benefit from cavity wall Insulation. With over 30 yeas experience supplying systems within the UK PermaRock has developed systems to suit nearly all building types and construction methods.
What are the main benefits?
You’ll improve the thermal performance (energy efficiency) of your home which will reduce your heating costs and also improve the visual appearance of the property.
Will I feel the difference once installed?
Yes – both in the winter and summer: improved insulation levels lead to a reduction in heat loss in the winter and reduces overheating in the summer.
How much money will I save a year on fuel bills?
An average semi-detached home could typically save £500 per year on fuel costs (Source: EST) but this can be higher if your home is made even more energy efficient through the incorporation of thicker insulation as part of the external wall insulation system.
Are there grants or funding available?
Any funding support that might be available is very limited and is dependant on a number of factors and the homeowner/client must be in receipt of at least one of the following:
- Council tax benefit
- Housing benefit
- Income support Income-based job seekers allowance
- Attendance allowance
- Disability living allowance
- War disablement pension, which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance
- Disablement pension, which includes constant attendance allowance
- State pension credit
Or
- is in receipt of at least one of the following credits:
Child tax credit, where the relevant income is £15,592 or less Working tax credit, where the relevant income is £15,592 or less
Or
If eligible, funding would only typically contribute between 5-10% and we would also require information on your house type/construction and number of bedrooms.
Do I need planning permission?
External wall insulation requires a planning permission since it changes the appearance of a house. This is particularly relevant in conservation areas. However, you should call your local council to check on local policy. If you live in a block of flats, it may not be feasible to treat your home in isolation.
Who installs the system?
Operating on a nationwide basis, only approved and trained installers can apply the PermaRock system. We will supply details of suitable installers that cover your locality to price the works.
How long will installation take?
Allowing for normal weather conditions and all necessary preliminary works, application on a typical semi-detached house will take between 2 – 3 weeks.
How durable is the system?
The system is designed to withstand ‘normal’ wear and tear but should the system become damaged we can advise as to the best course of action to repair or replacement the effected area(s)/systems(s).
What disruption will be caused?
Disruption will be minimal, however, as part of the installation process drilling and mixing machines will be in use whilst work progresses. Scaffolding may well also be required during the application but the approved installer will keep you well informed as to the programme of works before installation begins.
Are the systems approved?
PermaRock systems are accredited to British and European Standards through the British Board of Agrement (BBA) and Building Research Establishment (BRE). The systems are also Energy Savings Trust Approved and PermaRock are members of the National Insulation Association (NIA).
What decorative finishes are there?
PermaRock provide a wide selection of decorative renders and finishes. These can be viewed in our decorative options brochure. The prices of the different decorative options can vary considerably between choices available, so please ensure you specify to the contractor your choice decorative finish.
Is there a guarantee?
PermaRock offer a standard company guarantee certificate for all its external wall insulation Systems, guaranteeing the materials for a period of 10 years from the date of issue. This guarantee is issued on each project at no extra cost
Can I install items to my walls after the installation (Hanging baskets, satellite dishes, etc)?
Yes but we would advise you to contact either the installer or PermaRock for advice prior to any works being undertaken to ensure the system doesn’t become damaged or its structural integrity effected in anyway.
If you are planning any other refurbishment/maintenance works (new windows, extensions, etc) it may be better to undertake these works in advance of the external wall insulation, but the approved installer will be able to advise you accordingly.
What will it cost?
This is dependant on a number of factors but typical for a semi-detached home the cost of supply and installation of a system would be between £6000 - £7500. Please note costs can vary considerably depending upon the wall configuration of your home.
