EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION / NEW BUILD/
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS /
PermaRock's Area Sales Managers and Technical Department provide industry leading advise and support with regard to external wall insulation (EWI) system specification. There are a number of considerations that can influence the choice of system and decorative finish proposed for any given building, including:
- Type of Building/Wall Build-Up: The system choice should be designed to suit the overall wall construction, design loads, substrate movement, etc.
- Geographical location: a coastal or inland location or high exposure to wind pressures and other weathering may also affect system choice.
- Aesthetics: Is the desired colour available and is the decorative finish suitable for the design and its intended location and exposure?
- Thermal Performance: What is the U-value of the building envelope or SAP rating requirement? Are there limitations to the thickness (zone) of system which can be accommodated?
- Fire Performance: The system should be suitable for low rise and/or high-rise application and, where required, should incorporate fire performance or fire-breaks to meet with building regulations and BR135 requirements.
- Impact Resistance: The decorative finish may be selected primarily on the desired aesthetic appearance but also must take into consideration the level of impact resistance necessary. Where required, additional reinforcement should be incorporated into the system design
- Enviromental Performance: The system should incorporate insulation materials which are CFC/HCFC free and which do not employ ozone depleting chemicals in their manufacture. The specifier may also wish to take into account any Eco-points rating a system may have achieved through a life cycle assessment.
- Cost: A number of design factors can have an effect on the cost of the system including insulation type and thickness as well as the choice of decorative finishes, fixing methods, etc.
- Detailing and Interfaces: Full consideration needs to be given to the interface with other material's and how the system is protected at edges, overhangs and abutments.
Professional Installation - Application of PermaRock systems is undertaken by our nationwide network of trained and approved applicator contractors.
The performance of these applicators is constantly monitored to ensure continued satisfactory performance and PermaRock operate an Identity Card system for external wall insulation site operatives. The cards are monitored and checked by system technicians during routine site visits to ensure system installation is undertaken by trained and experienced personnel and that quality standards are maintained. PermaRock approved applicators operate in all areas of the UK.
PermaRock can provide details, on a project by project basis, of approved applicator companies capable of carrying out the installation of any PermaRock system based on a project size, location and programme requirements.
